JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Associate Director of Healthcare Pathway Programs provides strategic leadership, advising, programming, and operational oversight for students pursuing careers and advanced education in health professions. This position supports collaborative initiatives between the University of Tennessee System schools and UT Health Sciences that promote student success, professional school readiness, and the development of Tennessee's healthcare workforce. The Associate Director delivers comprehensive advising and coaching services that support students from career exploration through professional school admission and career entry.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE:

Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising, student affairs, health professions advising, higher education administration, student success, program management, or a related field; OR Master’s Degree and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising, student affairs, health professions advising, higher education administration, student success, program management, or a related field; OR a combination of related education and experience that equals ten (10) years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of health professions education, admissions processes, and professional school pathways.
• Knowledge of academic advising, student development, and best practices in higher education.
• Skill in advising, coaching, and mentoring students.
• Skill in developing and implementing educational programs, events, and student success initiatives.
• Skill in building collaborative partnerships with faculty, staff, healthcare professionals, and external stakeholders.
• Skill in oral and written communication, presentation delivery, and relationship management.
• Skill in data management, assessment, reporting, and the use of student information systems and technology platforms.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, analyze information, solve problems, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. May require occasional overnight travel.

1. Advises and mentors students pursuing careers in healthcare; provides individualized guidance on academic planning, healthcare career exploration, experiential learning opportunities, professional competencies, and graduate/professional school preparation.
2. Supports students throughout the admissions process, including application strategy, personal statements, interviews, admissions testing, and matriculation planning.
3. Develops and manages experiential learning, mentorship, shadowing, and professional development opportunities that prepare students for health professions programs.
4. Supports recruitment, engagement, and progression initiatives for students participating in the University Honors Health Fellows Program.
5. Builds partnerships with healthcare organizations, alumni, and admissions representatives to expand student opportunities and engagement.
6. Develops and delivers advising programs, workshops, and resources that promote student success and readiness for health professions education.
7. Recruits, trains, and supervises peer mentors and supports student organizations related to health professions and pre-professional education.
8. Serves as a liaison to students, faculty, and campus partners and maintains resources related to health professions education and represents the program at orientations, recruitment events, admissions programs, and student success initiatives.
9. Maintains program records, student data, and participation metrics for health professions initiatives such as the University Honors Health Fellows Program.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
