The Postdoctoral Scholar develops and analyzes mathematical models of the immune response to viral and bacterial infections. The Smith lab is a dual dry/wet laboratory and uniquely generates robust data sets to train and validate model predictions.
The Postdoctoral Scholar develops and analyzes mathematical models of the immune response to viral and bacterial infections. The Smith lab is a dual dry/wet laboratory and uniquely generates robust data sets to train and validate model predictions.
Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, etc.)
Prior experience in modeling viral infections, bacterial infections, and/or immune
response dynamics. Experience with parameter estimation techniques and data-driven modeling.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Proficient programming skills in Python and/or Matlab.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
Develops and analyzes dynamical infection models.
Utilizes parameter estimation to investigate experimental and clinical data.
Helps design new experiments.
Conducts mechanistic and computational modeling of within-host infectious disease dynamics in support of R01.
Generates new hypotheses about respiratory infection biology.
Presents findings at lab meetings, seminars, and conferences.
Maintains accurate records and ensures reproducibility of results.
Prepares manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and contributes to grant proposals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
