- Work cooperatively with the STEM Director and all Lone Oaks Farm staff in implementing the program. This includes teaching of math, science, technology, and engineering. The curriculum will be created by the STEM Director.
- Assist the STEM Director in adapting activities and materials for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing the use of the environment and the outdoors as an integrating context in STEM education, as well as providing an opportunity for all students to participate in activities
- Setting up the equipment and preparing materials prior to arrival of students, as well as picking up and packing materials and/or equipment at the end of the day.
- Assisting with the supervision and instruction of students.
The Program Assistant will work under the direction of the Extension Specialist III/STEM Director to facilitate activities to implement a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) educational program at Lone Oaks Farm, a facility owned by the University of Tennessee. The STEM program represents a partnership between the University of Tennessee Extension and Hardeman County School, and will serve K-12 students in Hardeman County and other area school districts. Assist with educational programs that meet the needs of all eligible clientele regardless of age, race, color, national origin, sex, religion, disability, or veteran status. Fully funded by a grant account.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED, knowledge and experience with technology, including computer skills, Microsoft Word, Excel. Etc.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of related experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to be enthusiastic and creative minded.
Clear background check will be required.
Must have a valid Tennessee Driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Vocational or technical training. Associates Degree preferred.

Experience:
Teaching experience in the sciences.
One or more years of experience with teaching youth in a class setting.

The 4-H and Youth Development Center at Lone Oaks Farm serves as one of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture’s sites for youth education, leadership development, and hands-on STEM and agricultural learning. As an extension of UT Extension and Tennessee 4-H, the Center provides innovative programming that connects classroom learning to real-world experiences through outdoor education, summer camps, school partnerships, and workforce readiness initiatives.
Located in Middleton, Tennessee, Lone Oaks Farm hosts thousands of young people each year, offering immersive programs in science, technology, engineering, agriculture, and environmental conservation. The Extension Program Assistant II position is housed at Lone Oaks Farm, a facility operated by UT Extension. The position is responsible to the 4-H Youth & Development Director. This is a full-time position.
Duties include:
