The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking a Network Services Admin II to design, implement, support, and maintain a highly secure, resilient, and high-performance wired and wireless network infrastructure that empowers academic research, educational excellence, and seamless university operations. This position possesses the responsibilities and expectations of an intermediate-level networking professional, with understanding and expectations in network design, administration, and engineering. This position plays a vital role in ensuring fast, secure, and reliable network connectivity that supports research, education, and administrative excellence across campus.
This position is an intermediate-level networking professional in deploying, managing, and evolving wired and wireless network projects and solutions across a production network enterprise architecture. Deploys and manages systems, networks, or databases. This position assists with enterprise wired/wireless network design, implementation, and maintenance. Operates independently for small to large systems, networks, and/or databases, and under the direction and support of senior staff, for larger systems, networks, and/or databases. These positions will participate in on-call rotation. The on-call support covers non-business hours including the weekend. On-call support is for one week and may be required for three to four weeks within a year.

Required Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in a related field and 2 years of direct industry-related experience in network engineering or administration.
- Or high school diploma and 6 years of direct industry-related experience in network engineering or administration.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of wireless networking, wired networking, and systems administration
Ability to support and maintain both general and wireless networking.
Knowledge and skills to manage and troubleshoot network and Internet connectivity for the campus.
Ability to work well with others to complete projects and meet team objectives.
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and customers.

Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience: Experience in large-scale campus network environments supporting any of the following: wireless network design, system administration, networking systems, and network client support.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Wireless Controller based administration and Networking in an Aruba/HPE environment.
Experience providing enterprise network support in a higher education environment
Working knowledge of Cisco, Aruba, Arista, Fortinet, and Juniper network products.
Knowledge of PPE and ladder safety for construction areas and wireless troubleshooting.
Strong ability to work independently of direct supervision and in line with strategic direction.
Work Location:
This is an on-campus position in Knoxville, Tennessee with some flexibility for hybrid/remote work.
Compensation and Benefits
- UT market range: MR12 (Find more information on the UT Market Range structure here)
- Anticipated hiring range: $75,000-$85,000

Administer and support general campus networking including wired, WAN, security, and remote access in a backup role to other team members.
- Independently responsible for the scheduling, repair and replacement of down access points throughout our Residential Wireless Network.
- Routine surveys of highly populated areas such as libraries, food courts, and outdoor venues.
- Troubleshooting client issues through CLI commands, site surveys and planning new AP's or relocating existing AP's.
Maintain accurate documentation of network designs, configurations, and inventories.
Respond to and resolve network service requests efficiently through the ticketing system.
Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical staff during troubleshooting.
Monitor and interpret network performance and telemetry data to identify issues.
Provide enterprise wireless network support and maintenance, participating in RF surveys, network repair, troubleshooting, monitoring, and reporting.
- Weekly task of managing all calls/tickets to NS through our Network Operations Center.
- Assist with general network design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Provide Tier 2 wired/wireless client troubleshooting and support
Collaborate with on- and off-campus partners during planned or emergency outages.
Ensure network services meet high standards of reliability, scalability, and security.
New Network Implementations for both wired and wireless.
- Building AP site survey and re-designs
- Perform general network on-call duties including occasional evening, weekend, and holiday support.
