The Office of the Visitors Center at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, (UTK) invites applications and nominations for our Visitor Services Counselor position. We are seeking candidates who can contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree must be obtained by the date of hire; current students nearing graduation are encouraged to apply.

• 1 year of experience in admissions, counseling, campus visits, orientation, or advising at a regionally accredited college or university, OR experience in public relations, business management, customer service, client relations/management; OR,

• 2 years of student employment, student volunteer work or internship experience will be considered.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to function in a dynamic environment

• Excellent customer service skills

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate and interact effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and students

• Ability to multi-task

• Excellent organizational and problem solving skills

• Excellent grammar and proofreading skills

• Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

• Detail oriented

• Possess a strong, proven record of teamwork

• Capable of working individually and in a team environment

• High level of personal initiative

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Must have some experience giving oral presentations.

• 3+ years of experience working with diverse populations.

• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, data driven decision making and relationship building.

• Report building and maintenance, and the use of data driven decision making for planning and strategy development.

• Previous work with student employees or campus tours.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience and knowledge of working with a tour/ambassador program

• Knowledge and experience working with undergraduate admissions

The Division

The Enrollment Management (EM) division comprises more than 190 full-time staff who serve our students through the following departments and functions: Undergraduate Admissions, International Recruitment, Transfer Center, One Stop Student Services, Financial Aid and Scholarships, University Registrar, EM Communications, and Research & Analytics. This is an on-campus position with some hybrid/remote work schedule flexibility.

This position provides a key support role for 100 student ambassadors, as well as prospective students and guests that visit our campus each day. This person will serve as the primary coordinator for the student ambassador program, whose students are the official campus tour guides. They will also be responsible for conducting daily campus information sessions and greeting guests and their families. They will also stay engaged with the overall impact of our recruitment, through the coordination of strategic recruitment initiatives for the campus visit program, focusing on creating a competitive advantage for our university for both in and out of state students. They will assist in establishing recruitment goals by leveraging data from evaluations and assessments of the campus visit program, to help develop strategic recruitment plans and conduct market analysis of other institutions. This data driven approach will inform overall recruitment goals, help craft a comprehensive campus visit experience, helping to drive our planning and strategy to achieve the University’s enrollment goals. Through the visit program, they will counsel a diverse set of prospective students and parents. Represents UTK and Undergraduate Admissions at recruitment events. This employee will report to the Assistant Director of the Visitors Center.
