RecSports is seeking certified, dependable, and safety-focused Non-Student Summer Lifeguards to support aquatics operations during peak summer months. Summer lifeguards play a critical role in maintaining a safe and welcoming aquatic environment for the University of Tennessee community and guests.

As a Summer Lifeguard, you’ll be responsible for monitoring pool activity, enforcing safety protocols, and responding quickly and confidently in emergency situations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Current, nationally recognized lifeguarding certification (American Red Cross Lifeguard, Ellis Lifeguard Training Program, or equivalent) approved by RecSports Aquatics professional staff if not with American Red Cross.

  • Must be 18 years of age at time of hire to be eligible to work

Job Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Recognize and respond to emergencies by performing to the objective of American Red Cross standards

  • Evaluate safety conditions and initiate Emergency Action Plan as required

  • Promote and maintain cleanliness and safety within and around RecSports facilities

  • Participate in department training and monthly in-service training to uphold American Red Cross skill standards

  • Maintain a current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid certification
