RecSports is seeking certified, dependable, and safety-focused Non-Student Summer Lifeguards to support aquatics operations during peak summer months. Summer lifeguards play a critical role in maintaining a safe and welcoming aquatic environment for the University of Tennessee community and guests.
Join the Student Aquatic Center team this summer and play a key role in creating a safe, welcoming, and energetic environment for our campus and community members. As a Summer Lifeguard, you’ll be responsible for monitoring pool activity, enforcing safety protocols, and responding quickly and confidently in emergency situations.
This position is more than just lifeguarding—you’ll be part of a tight-knit team that values connection, accountability, and positive energy. You’ll build relationships with fellow staff and patrons while contributing to a strong culture of safety and service.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Current, nationally recognized lifeguarding certification (American Red Cross Lifeguard, Ellis Lifeguard Training Program, or equivalent) approved by RecSports Aquatics professional staff if not with American Red Cross.
Must be 18 years of age at time of hire to be eligible to work

Job Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Recognize and respond to emergencies by performing to the objective of American Red Cross standards
Evaluate safety conditions and initiate Emergency Action Plan as required
Promote and maintain cleanliness and safety within and around RecSports facilities
Participate in department training and monthly in-service training to uphold American Red Cross skill standards
Maintain a current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid certification
RecSports Department Responsibilities:

Provide exceptional service to participants and guests.
Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote a safe and welcoming environment.
Communicate professionally with participants, coworkers, and supervisors.
