The Pre-Health Advisor plays a vital role in supporting UTC students pursuing careers in health professions by providing comprehensive academic and career advising, coordinated outreach, and targeted programming. This position advises prospective students, currently enrolled students, and alumni interested in pre-health pathways; supports institutional recruitment and retention goals; and collaborates with campus partners to deliver high-impact pre-health events and initiatives.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) is seeking a Pre-Health Advisor to join the College of Arts and Sciences. This position plays a vital role in supporting students pursuing careers in health professions by providing individualized and group advising, coordinating outreach and recruitment efforts, and collaborating with academic and clinical partners.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Education, Health Sciences, or a related field
  • One (1) year of experience providing academic advising or student support in an educational setting
  • Experience with event coordination or program support

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Health Sciences, Psychology, or a related field
  • Experience advising pre-health, nursing, or healthcare-focused student populations
  • Experience planning and executing large-scale student events
  • Experience using Navigate, Banner, and/or Argos reporting systems

  • This is a fully on-site position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Student Advising & Pre-Health Support

  • Advise prospective students, enrolled students, and alumni across assigned pre-health and health professions pathways
  • Guide students on academic planning, course sequencing, degree requirements, and professional school preparation
  • Assist students with application timelines, standardized testing awareness, and experiential preparation
  • Provide individual and group advising sessions, both in person and virtually
  • Refer students to appropriate campus and external resources to support academic and professional success

Outreach, Recruitment & Programming

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director on large-scale events such as Blue and Gold Day, the Pre-Health Expo, and other recruitment initiatives
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver workshops, information sessions, and presentations for students and prospective students
  • Participate in orientation and outreach initiatives
  • Represent Pre-Health Student Services at campus events and recruitment activities

Operations, Data Tracking & Reporting

  • Track application, acceptance, and outcome data for assigned pre-health student populations
  • Prepare reports to support assessment, strategic planning, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Utilize advising and student information systems to document interactions and maintain accurate records

Other Duties

  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned

  • Knowledge of academic advising practices and student development principles
  • Knowledge of health professions pathways and professional school admissions processes
  • Skill in providing individualized and group advising to various student populations
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and executing advising programs and recruitment events
  • Skill in oral and written communication, including presentations and student-facing materials
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and deadlines
  • Ability to use technology and data systems effectively for advising, communication, and reporting
