The Building Services Department is accepting applications for an Electrician. Responsibilities include but are not limited to installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex electrical systems and equipment across university buildings and facilities. This position ensures that all electrical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable electrical codes and university standards. These systems include: lighting, receptacles, large/small commercial equipment, transformers, generators, HVAC equipment, plumbing equipment, and IT equipment. This position has the ability to do the previous with little to no supervision.

High school diploma and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
State electricians license
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and do material take offs for projects
Knowledge of electrical codes and regulations
Use of all tools associated with the installation and repairs of electrical systems
Ability to communicate effectively and customer service skills
Valid driver’s license

Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment in academic buildings, residence halls, laboratories, and administrative offices. Troubleshoot electrical issues such as power failures, faulty wiring, lighting problems, and equipment malfunctions. Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems including panels, transformers, generators, and lighting systems. Install and maintain lighting systems, switches, outlets, circuit breakers, and control systems. Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams. Ensure compliance with local, state, and national electrical codes and university safety policies. Respond to electrical maintenance requests and emergency repairs across campus. Assist with electrical upgrades, renovations, and new construction projects. Maintain records of maintenance work, repairs, and inspections. Collaborate with other maintenance staff, contractors, and campus departments.
Perform inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of campus fire alarm systems, including fire alarm control panels, manual pull stations, smoke detectors, horn/strobes, and other related fire detection and notification devices.
Install and maintain underground electrical systems, including cutting, threading, bending, and installing conduit. Pull wiring and complete electrical connections in panel boards to support university construction and maintenance operations. Perform work in confined spaces, including crawl spaces and attics, as required. Assist other departments in troubleshooting problem issues.
Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and inspections of electrical equipment and circuits to ensure proper operation and detect conditions such as loose connections, overheating, insulation deterioration, arcing, misalignment, lubrication deficiencies, and vibration.
