JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Medical Billing Specialist supports the Director of Operations and the Clinical Program Directors by performing duties related to billing and maintenance of financial records for clinical operations. This includes maintaining the integrity of insurance payment transactions, AR management and reconciliation, expenses, billing/payment disputes, bank deposits, and electronic records management/auditing etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in an office setting in medical billing using an electronic medical record and/or accounting system; OR a combination of experience and education to equal two (2) years. (Prior experience in audiology or speech pathology setting is preferred.)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of insurance billing procedures and basic accounting skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including competency in Microsoft Excel and Word and accuracy in typing and data entry.
  • Experience with computerized patient management or accounting systems.
  • Ability to read both printed and cursive writing.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to maintain a friendly demeanor and exhibit tact and professionalism both in person and on the phone.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  1. Ensures medical claims are properly coded and billed timely.
  2. Identifies and investigates billing problems to find, communicate, and implement solutions.
  3. Reconciles insurance payments to patient accounts.
  4. Corrects claims for rebilling and appeals denial.
  5. Makes daily or weekly bank deposits.
  6. Reconciles bank activities with activities reported in DASH.
  7. Maintains the provider credentialing for network participation compliance.
  8. Prepares daily collections reports.
  9. Supervises work study students.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
