The Hall Director oversees a residential community housing approximately 517–1,084 students and supervises a team that may include 8–22 Resident Assistants (RAs), an Assistant Hall Director (AHD), and Office Assistants. This role is responsible for staff selection, training, evaluation, and ongoing development. The Hall Director collaborates closely with facilities, housekeeping, and campus partners to ensure efficient operations and a positive residential experience.
The HD serves as a key leader in fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging community while managing student concerns, administrative processes, and emergency response.
The Hall Director (HD) is responsible for the overall development and administration of a residence life program focused on community development and student engagement within residence halls. This position serves as a live-in professional staff member providing leadership in staff supervision, student development, conduct, crisis response, and facility operations.
Required Qualifications
- Education: A bachelor’s degree is required at the time of application.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Ability to multi-task
Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Skilled in training and supervising staff
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Master’s Degree
- Experience: In Residence Life, counseling or related field

Anticipated hiring range:
- Bachelor's degree $47,500
- Master’s degree $50,000

Staff Supervision & Development
- Select, train, supervise, and evaluate Assistant Hall Directors, Resident Assistants, and Office Assistants
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities for staff
- Facilitate regular staff meetings and training sessions
- Instruct sessions during the Resident Assistant Symposium as part of the RA selection process
Community Development & Student Engagement
- Develop and implement a comprehensive residence life program that promotes student learning and engagement
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence within the residential community
- Foster a sense of belonging through intentional interactions and programming initiatives
- Support students experiencing academic, personal, or interpersonal challenges
Student Conduct & Crisis Management
- Address student behavior concerns and enforces university policies
- Serve in an on-call rotation to respond to student crises and emergencies
- Provide appropriate follow-up, documentation, and referrals related to student incidents
- Support students in distress and connect them with campus resources
Operations & Facilities Management
- Collaborate with facilities, maintenance, and housekeeping staff to address building needs
- Ensure timely resolution of resident concerns and facility issues
- Participate in area coverage rotations for campus-wide support
- Maintain communication with housing administrative and finance units
