This position serves as a liaison between the university and the community at large by assisting potential students and families in-office, by telephone and by email by providing up-to-date information, updating student files on demand and/or updating a students' decision in addition to the ability to provide timely admissions decisions, and in some cases, representing UTC at college/professional fairs. This position also provides specialized in-office processing of admissions files (Transfer, Freshman, Readmission and other student types) and ensures the appropriate organization of admission files through scanning/indexing.

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree required. Previous experience working in a college setting, use of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows is required. Must feel comfortable using oral/written skills to disseminate sensitive information both in person and by email/telephone.

Preferred Qualifications: Two to three years of experience in a college admissions office or comparable collegiate/business experience. Experience with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and higher education in Tennessee. Experience in the evaluation or transfer process. Previous experience in Ellucian Banner & ARGOS is preferred.


Primary Responsibilities/Functions:

  • Evaluate college transcripts for the awarding of course credit, grade point averages to assess/provide admissions standing and ultimately an admissions decision
  • Use ARGOS reporting to identify and correct errors in student admission files
  • Run ARGOS reports to create daily workload by identifying complete, ready to review students
  • Interacting with prospective students and families who visit or call the Admissions office including high school students, transfer students, foreign students, parents & adult students
  • Participate in specialized programs such as phone calling campaigns and off-campus events
  • Follow up on initial contacts made via mail, email & telephone

  • Strong oral and written and communication skills
  • Knowledge of admissions policies and academic programs
  • Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and propose solutions to complex issues
