Victoria and Thomas Martin School of Arts and Humanities has periodic openings for part-time, adjunct faculty to teach on site in the English program. The primary responsibility will be teaching first-year composition courses, English 101 and 102. Applicants may have the opportunity to teach a literature course in their field, depending on department needs. As part of our commitment to academic excellence, we are building a pool of skilled instructors who can contribute to students’ success through engaging and effective teaching. The principal responsibility of the position is teaching undergraduate students.

Position Overview:

Adjunct instructors in English will teach primarily within our first-year writing sequence (English 101 and English 102) focusing on critical thinking, rhetoric, and academic writing. Courses may be offered face-to-face, hybrid, online, or at off-campus locations depending on the University's needs. For the 2026-2027 year, there are opportunities to teach dual enrollment and on-site courses.

  • Master's degree in English or a related field.

  • Experience teaching college-level writing (preferred).

  • Proven record of quality instruction.

  • Ability to teach on site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas.

  • Experience teaching high school English, AP English, or dual enrollment (beneficial).

  • Teach courses on-campus, off-campus, or online as assigned.

  • Work with the program coordinator to ensure consistent and appropriate student learning.

  • Utilize the College’s learning management system (Canvas) to assess student projects and record grades in a timely manner.

  • Regularly check your email account. Respond to emails/messages in a timely manner.

  • Complete all required reports, such as early grade alerts, midterm grades, and final grades.
