The Digital Content Specialist develops, writes, designs, and produces strategic digital communications including email, SMS, and web content, that directly support enrollment growth and campus engagement goals. This role combines persuasive, conversion-focused copywriting with accessible, branded design to ensure high-performing communications for prospective students and internal audiences. The Specialist works closely with admissions and campus partners to align messaging, improve performance metrics, and maintain consistency across channels.


Digital Content Specialist (Communications & Marketing Professional 1 – MR09) Communications & Marketing, University of Tennessee, Chattanooga

Minimum: Requires a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, design, or related field; and a minimum of two years of experience creating digital marketing content, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Relevant internships or academic projects may count toward this experience requirement.

Preferred: Experience in higher education marketing or enrollment communications; and experience with Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Slate, or similar CRM-integrated email platforms is preferred.


Digital Campaign Development

  • Writes, designs, and produces strategic digital communications including email, SMS (text), and select web content for student enrollment and campus engagement
  • Ensures content aligns with brand standards, accessibility requirements, and institutional goals

Content Strategy and Collaboration

  • Partners with admissions and campus partners to align messages with enrollment cycles, CRM workflows, and audience needs

Template and Asset Development

  • Creates and maintains branded, mobile-responsive, and accessible templates for email and campus communications
  • Develops reusable digital assets that support multi-channel campaigns

Performance Monitoring and Optimization

  • Tracks, analyzes, and reports on key engagement metrics across email, SMS, and web content
  • Recommends and implements improvements to increase open rates, click-through rates, conversions, and overall audience engagement

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Knowledge of email marketing best practices, including audience segmentation, A/B testing, and accessibility standards
  • Knowledge of higher education marketing and student recruitment cycles
  • Knowledge of SMS marketing compliance and best practices
  • Skill in HTML/CSS for email
  • Skill in writing clear, persuasive, and conversion-focused copy for multiple audiences
  • Skill in visual design and layout for digital platforms
  • Ability to manage projects from concept to completion with minimal supervision
  • Ability to use email marketing platforms, CRM tools, and design software
  • Ability to interpret analytics and apply data to improve communication effectiveness
