The IT Administrator position is responsible for the management, design, deployment, and maintenance of data center systems as part of the UTC IT Infrastructure team. This role involves independently analyzing and solving complex technical problems, managing projects of moderate to advanced complexity, and collaborating with vendors and campus partners to meet the University’s technology needs. The position requires innovative problem-solving skills to ensure the seamless integration of solutions that satisfy user requirements.
IT Administrator (IT Administrator/Analyst 2 – MR11) Information Technology, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
Minimum: Requires a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field; two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred: Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate), experience with system administration and IT infrastructure management is preferred.
Data Center Operations and Support
Maintains, monitors, and optimizes data center infrastructure, servers and storage systems
Ensures high availability and reliability of critical systems through proactive monitoring and maintenance
Assists with developing and implementing disaster recovery plans to safeguard University data and operations
Assists with capacity planning to ensure the data center can meet current/future demands
Independently analyzes and resolves complex technical issues affecting operations
Provides advanced-level support for escalated issues from other IT staff or users
Uses innovative approaches to troubleshoot problems while balancing competing policies or constraints
Project Design, Deployment, and Execution
Manages medium to large-scale projects involving system upgrades, migrations, or new implementations
Collaborates with senior staff to design solutions that align with University goals
Tests and deploys new technologies while ensuring minimal disruption to end-users
Documents project plans, timelines, and outcomes for future reference
Vendor Collaboration and Product Integration
Works with vendors to evaluate products that meet University requirements
Manages vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery of services or products
Oversees the integration of third-party solutions into existing systems while maintaining compatibility
License Management and Compliance
Manages software licenses for purchased products used within the data center environment
Ensures compliance with licensing agreements and University policies
Tracks license usage and recommend renewals or upgrades as needed
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix)
- Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Knowledge of documentation and training development
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure, including servers, operating systems, and network devices
- Skill in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
- Ability to manage user accounts and ensure data security
- Ability to work collaboratively on project teams
