The Center for Health Education and Wellness at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is hiring for a Collegiate Recovery Program Coordinator.

The Collegiate Recovery Program Coordinator oversee programs and services to meet the needs of students in, or those exploring the option of, recovery from alcohol, drugs, and/or mental health disorders. This position assists in establishing an environment in which students in recovery feel a sense of connection to the campus community. Additionally, the position facilitates individual alcohol education and campus recovery-focused alcohol and other drug prevention efforts.

This position develops and coordinates health and wellness initiatives for University of Tennessee, Knoxville students. This role works to mobilize, develop, and sustain evidence-informed campus-wide health promotion practices based on collected data and national best practices. While the role leads with community level interventions, some individual or small group programming may be needed to meet the needs of students and create an environment that promotes student success.

The Center for Health Education and Wellness at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is hiring for a Collegiate Recovery Program Coordinator.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Health Education, Counseling, Higher Education, or related field
  • Experience: One (1) year of relevant experience in substance use prevention, recovery support, wellness programming, or direct student support within a higher education, healthcare, or community-based setting. Relevant graduate assistantships, internships, practicum experiences, or peer recovery support experience may be considered in lieu of full-time professional experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge to conceptualize health promotion in the context of higher education with application to substance use recovery and student well-being. Understanding health promotion, behavior change, and recovery-relevant theories and models. Ability to critically review health-related and recovery-related professional literature relevant to college students and assess its applicability and utility for effectiveness in a collegiate recovery setting. Experience applying evidence-informed and best-practice collegiate recovery programs and recovery support initiatives. Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, particularly in recovery-oriented and student-centered contexts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Health Education, Counseling, Higher Education, or related field
  • Experience: Two (2) or more years of professional experience working in collegiate recovery, substance use prevention, behavioral health, or recovery-support environments. Experience providing direct support to students in recovery, facilitating recovery-related programming or peer-support spaces, and collaborating with campus and community partners is preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of management strategies and health behavior change models as they relate to recovery and recovery-supportive campus environments. Skill in gathering, compiling, and synthesizing information to develop recovery-oriented initiatives and educational materials. Experience facilitating a variety of educational and engagement methods, including presentations, workshops, trainings, and peer-support or community-building activities.

  • This position is on-site at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Campus.

Compensation and Benefits

  • UT market range: MR08
  • Anticipated hiring range: Starting salary of $46,000 with final salary commensurate with education and experience.

  • Collaborate with campus partners to co-develop and co-deliver programming

  • Manage program logistics (planning timelines, materials, facilitators, space, and promotion)

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health promotion for students

  • Consult and mentor students one-on-one and within groups and provide front line advocacy and support

  • Connect students to appropriate campus and community resources

  • Assist with student led programing (ex: outreach initiatives, workshops, and tabling events)

  • Serve as a visible, approachable wellness resource for students and the broader campus community Provide input on management of the overall office budget

  • Establish clear and measurable learning and behavior-change objectives for wellness initiatives

  • Use assessment findings to continuously improve services and demonstrate program impact

  • Maintain accurate program documentation, calendars, and reports

  • Actively contribute to a collaborative and supportive office culture

  • Support department-wide initiatives, events, and strategic priorities

  • Assist with special projects and cross-functional efforts as needed
