As an Analytics Engineer, you will support the division by designing, building, and maintaining analytics-ready data solutions that power reporting, dashboards, and data-informed decision-making. You will focus on developing robust data models, ETL pipelines, and BI datasets, as well as assisting with database migration efforts to UT’s cloud environment. Your work will ensure reliable, performant, and well-documented data assets that serve stakeholders across the division.

Your work will ensure reliable, performant, and well-documented data assets that serve stakeholders across the division.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or business intelligence
- Strong proficiency in SQL, including writing complex queries and stored procedures
- Proven experience with database servers, designing and maintaining ETL pipelines and migrating or modernizing databases
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Master's degree in a related analytical or technical field

Experience:
- Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer Certification (Exam DP-600) or similar certification
- Five (5) or more years of experience in analytics engineering, business intelligence, or data engineering
- Experience working in a higher education or public-sector environment
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric environment
- Experience with complex data sets including manipulating, merging, restructuring, and analyzing large data sets
- Demonstrated experience developing reports and semantic models using Microsoft Power BI
Work Location
- Knoxville, TN. This position does have the potential for a hybrid working capacity.
Compensation and Benefits
- UT market range: MR 12
- Hiring Range: $85,000-100,000/year dependent on experience

Data Engineering, ETL, and Data Modeling
- Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines that extract, transform, and load data into Digital Learning databases and semantic models
- Collaborate with analysts to design, develop, and maintain accurate and reliable conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support reporting and self-service analytics
- Implement best practices including star schema modeling, optimized DAX measures, and dataset performance tuning
- Ensure data quality and accuracy throughout the ETL process
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve ETL failures and data anomalies to ensure reliable data availability
- Develop subject matter expertise in institutional data sources that support the Digital Learning mission
- Remain current with evolving analytics engineering tools, techniques, and industry best practices
- Document ETL workflows, transformations, and data lineage to support transparency and maintainability
Database Migration and Modernization
- Plan and execute migrations of data and schemas from MySQL to Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Fabric
- Analyze existing MySQL databases and design improved SQL Server schemas
- Migrate tables, views, indexes, constraints, and relationships while ensuring data integrity and compatibility
- Validate migrated data for accuracy, completeness, and performance.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and data stakeholders to support smooth migration efforts
Data Analytics and Visualization
- Translate business requirements into analytics solutions and intuitive visualizations
- Provide guidance and technical consultation to departmental partners regarding analytics, metrics, and reporting approaches
Implementation, Maintenance, and Documentation of Processes
- Follow established coding standards, version control practices, and documentation guidelines
- Improve efficiency and reliability of analytics workflows through automation and optimization
- Identify and resolve data quality issues to maintain consistency and integrity across datasets
- Maintain documentation for data definitions, business rules, schemas, and analytics processes
- Support continuous improvement of the division’s analytics and reporting infrastructure
