The position is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and management for outreach and engagement for the College of Social Work, while working closely with the Dean on managing Board of Visitors and special projects. Manages Continuing Education and events, liaises with Alumni Affairs and Advancement, and coordinates special projects that enhance the external relationships between the college and the Knoxville and Nashville communities, the state, and nationally. Serves in an outreach function for the CSW through community service on various Boards and other strategically planned partnerships. Assesses new strategies and problem-solving techniques for high level decision making. Plans and budgets for organization and event sponsorships. Reports directly to the Dean and works as an integral member of the college’s Senior Administrative Team.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's Degree

Experience:

  • Three-Five years related experience in:
  • Leadership
  • Project management

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proven track record of project and/or event management
  • Professional networking
  • Staff supervision
  • Exhibiting sounds judgment as well as having experience in handling sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Experience in OS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SAP software
  • Prefer experience with Qualtrics

About The College/Department/Division

The college provides a professional social work education program that prepares bachelor’s and master's-level students for social work practice and doctoral-level graduate students for social work research and academia.


External relations:

  • Serves as liaison between external constituencies (i.e., legislators, public sector leaders, employers, potential research partners, sources for academic and continuing education students, etc.) and the dean.
  • Identifies opportunities for networking and community building for the College and the Dean, conducting initial outreach and coordinating meetings and other opportunities.
  • Prepares dean for meetings with external constituencies and facilitates those meetings. Identifies other opportunities for networking additional members of the Senior Administrative Team and other faculty/staff.
  • Manages the dean's relationship with the Board of Visitors, coordinates meetings, and provides ongoing communication support.
  • Collaborates with the advancement staff to identify and engage potential donors. Identifies and connects faculty with agency partners for research.
  • Works closely with the communications and marketing unit to identify and weigh opportunities for organizational and event sponsorships and coordinate representative attendance at external events.

Events and Continuing Education:

  • Supervises Assistant Director of Continuing education and, through that position, events staff to meet the need of alumni, students, and other social workers in TN.
  • Partners with Alumni Affairs development staff in coordinating regional meetings and national conference events.
  • Develops and oversees a budget for these areas.
  • Supervises continuing education staff member as they conceptualize, develop, offer, manage, and evaluate post-graduate certificates and not-for-credit training opportunities, as well as managing college events with the support of an events staff member.
  • Ensures that these units partner well together and work cohesively with the College's communications and marketing, academic affairs, and business affairs units, as well as the university's alumni affairs and community engagement and outreach units.

Project Administration:

  • Manages special projects supporting Dean’s initiatives.
  • Engages in strategic planning process by partnering closely with the dean and administrative team.
  • Serves as the College project manager for specific initiatives, such as special grant-funded college initiatives.
  • Makes modifications to plans and schedules as necessary to ensure the successful delivery of scope within time and budget constraints.
  • Provides updates and leads senior level presentations on project status which may include milestone achievement, resource needs, progress on deliverables, risks and issues.
  • Clearly communicates constraints, conflicts, requirements, compatibility issues, and other items that could affect project outcome, final performance level, or customer satisfaction.
  • Has authority to modify the project as appropriate and offers suitable alternatives and contingency plans, where required. Other duties as assigned.
