The Intramural Coordinator supports the daily administration, organization, and delivery of the university’s Intramural Sports program. This position assists with sport scheduling, league and tournament management, student staff supervision, sport official development, and participant communication. The coordinator ensures a safe, accessible, and engaging environment for all participants while upholding departmental policies and supporting RecSports’ mission of student development, community building, and quality programming. The role works collaboratively with professional staff, student employees, and campus partners to provide consistent and high-quality recreational experiences.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree

Experience: Experience working with students and student groups in a university campus recreation program or 2 years working in related recreation program (i.e., Parks & Rec).

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to work with diverse constituencies, prioritize multiple work responsibilities in time-sensitive situations, work with limited supervision, supervise, and delegate work to student staff, exercise good judgment, handle different situations with confidence and leadership, and be flexible; Knowledge of supervising and programming recreation facilities; Ability to use PC and Mac operating systems and Microsoft office suite; Strong skills in verbal and written communication, customer service, and interpersonal relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree

Experience: One (1) year of professional experience working with students in a campus recreation program or similar organization of comparable size.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Experience with When-to-Work and InnoSoft Fusion.

Work Location

  • This position is located in Knoxville, TN.
  • This position is in-person with remote work opportunities in the summer and during winter break.

Compensation and Benefits

  • UT market range: 08
  • Anticipated hiring range: $45,000 - $47,000 Final salary is commensurate with experience and other qualifications and is accompanied by a full university benefits package.

  • Coordinates the planning, scheduling, and execution of intramural leagues, tournaments, and special events.

  • Manages team registration processes; and ensures facility needs are clearly communicated and confirmed.

  • Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates intramural officials, scorekeepers, and supervisors.

  • Supports ongoing development through workshops, feedback, and mentoring to create a high-performing student employee team.

  • Implements and enforces sport rules, safety procedures, and risk management protocols.

  • Ensures proper equipment setup.

  • Responds to on-site issues, conflicts, or incidents in a timely and professional manner.

  • Tracks participation, trends, and operational data and assists with assessment and reporting.

  • Collaborates with other RecSports units to support facility access, equipment use, marketing efforts, and departmental events.
