Under the general supervision of the Director of Campus Security, the Campus Security Officer provides security and promotes safety for the community and property of the institution. Officers are expected to consistently and professionally serve the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the University of Tennessee Southern. This is a full-time, twelve (12) month position. In addition to their regular schedule, the incumbent must be willing to work other assigned shifts, special events, and overtime as needed, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.


Located in southern middle Tennessee, UT Southern is about 70 miles south of Nashville and 40 miles north of Huntsville, Alabama. The campus is nestled in the small community of Pulaski and currently enrolls about 800 students a year.

UT Southern is the newest campus to join the UT System, evolving from UT’s acquisition of Martin Methodist College in 2021. Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Unarmed or Armed Security Officer or POST Certification
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3-5 years experience in Law Enforcement or Security operations

The security guard will conduct foot and vehicle patrols of campus buildings, grounds, parking lots, and surrounding areas to provide visibility, maintain security, and deter crime. Responsibilities include responding appropriately to routine and emergency calls for service; providing security escorts for students, staff, and faculty; and addressing immediate safety concerns during emergency situations. The role involves maintaining building security through regular patrols and inspections, enforcing campus policies and procedures, and investigating potential crimes or student-related incidents to resolve conflicts or pursue further action. Additional duties include issuing parking tickets, directing traffic, and providing parking assistance during special events. The position also requires preparing accurate documentation such as incident and activity reports, parking permits, citations, and identification cards; maintaining positive working relationships with local law enforcement and emergency management agencies; operating department vehicles for patrol, transportation, and related duties; assisting with fire drills; and performing other assigned services as needed.
