Clinic Nurse (LPN or RN), University Health Services

Registered Nurse (Medical Nurse 1 – MR10)

$60,250 commensurate with skillset and experience

Licensed Practical Nurse (Medical Technician 2 – MR06)

$45,000-$48,000 commensurate with skillset and experience

The Clinic Nurse supports University Health Services providers and staff, as well as UTC students, faculty and staff by promoting health and wellness and support for acute and chronic illness.


Clinic Nurse (LPN or RN), University Health Services

Minimum Qualifications:

Must hold a current, unencumbered licensed as a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse in the State of Tennessee or Compact State; 2 years of experience as a nurse in either primary or acute care; and current BLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience as an emergency room, school health, or urgent care nurse is preferred; as well as current PALS/ACLS certification.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Providing direct patient care
  • Rooming patients
  • Assisting providers with medical procedures
  • Triaging and scheduling patients
  • Returning phone calls
  • Obtaining labs ordered by providers and notifying patients of the results when appropriate
  • Calling in medications and refills when directed by providers
  • Lab draws, wound care, IV insertions, injections
  • Referral and prescription support/scheduling/coordination
  • Clinical and office supply ordering

Additional responsibilities include support for clinical protocols; immunization compliance; basic electronic medical record competencies; cross-training for support of front desk operations, lab duties, back-up support of other clinical staff; and mentorship of students completing clinical rotations at UHS.

  • Ability to exercise critical thinking skills related to safe patient care.
  • Skills and understanding on prioritizing patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of effective communication with patients, families, colleagues and university employees
  • Ability to respect differences in culture, attitudes, values, and expectations of others
  • Ability to promote a positive image of UHS by modeling the values and attitudes of the nursing profession
  • Knowledge of the culture of quality, safety and caring in a variety of settings with diverse populations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (creation and management of spreadsheets) and MS Word
