The Assistant Golf Facility Superintendent assists the superintendent in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Golf Practice Facility. Reporting directly to the Golf Facility Superintendent, this person assists in implementing the strategy for course and facility management.

The Assistant Golf Facility Superintendent assists the superintendent in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Golf Practice Facility. Reporting directly to the Golf Facility Superintendent, this person assists in implementing the strategy for course and facility management.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: 1-3 years (can include part-time, GA, student, or internship positions) of golf course facility experience at the collegiate or professional levels.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Knowledge of general equipment and golf facility maintenance

    • Knowledge of golf course operations and playing format requirements for course usage

    • Ability to manage crew members and assign tasks

    • Ability to manage multiple tasks assigned

    • Ability to identify safety hazards and fix or report them

    • Solid communication skills

    • Ability to maintain a friendly and professional attitude

    • Excellent diagnostic skills

    • Ability to work in a team environment

    • Time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Turf Management or related field. TN pesticides license.
  • Experience: Crew leadership experience at a professional or collegiate venue.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Computer savvy: Word, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft .

    • Ability to climb ladders and use lifts

    • Ability to read, and follow oral and written instructions

    • Ability to operate power equipment: mowers, weed eaters, tractors, aerators, sprayers etc.

    • Ability to accurately evaluate field maintenance needs, efficient personnel use, and employee performance.

    • Ability to direct employees.

    • Knowledge of small engine maintenance.

    • Knowledge of large golf facility & grounds daily maintenance.

  • Assists in implementing the strategy of the Superintendent for maintaining the Golf Practice Facility and course so that it is usable day-in and day-out for events and daily golf team operation.

  • Assists in carrying out daily facility programs and 90-day action plans for facility and course management: 40 acres of high maintenance athletic turf, including 1.5 acres of putting green turf and cross-country course.

  • Assists in setting up for all internal (team, university, athletics department, etc.) and external (community, etc.) events hosted at the Golf Practice facility.

  • Assists in creating/implementing facility and course schedules for men's and women's golf programs.

  • Assists in the execution of all special requests (both internal and external) regarding facility management.

  • Assists in organizing the work of designated personnel, training full/part time staff members and student workers on the use of equipment, execution of daily work responsibilities and preventative maintenance measures on facilities, grounds and equipment.

  • Assists in the implementation of cultural and chemical programs for practice course management.

  • Assists in the management of facility equipment and inventory supplies for daily operations.

  • Assists in purchasing any facility or practice course need to support preventative maintenance and enhancement.

  • Assists in maintaining all landscaped areas within the facility.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Golf Facility Superintendent and Director of Sports Surfaces.
