The UX/Web Designer works as a member of the Office of Engineering Communications to support the mission of the Tickle College of Engineering. This position is responsible for the design, delivery, and implementation of digital design, user experience (UX) design, and data analytics. The role leads all web design initiatives and serves as the main liaison with the university’s Office of Communications and Marketing on projects related to the campus-wide Web Design System.
This position plays a key role in shaping the college’s online presence and ensuring a consistent, accessible, and engaging digital experience across all college web properties. This includes designing and maintaining websites, conducting data analysis for optimization, and training staff on digital content best practices. The position also collaborates with college and campus partners to ensure alignment with UT branding, accessibility, and design standards.

Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in web/electronic media or related field
Experience:
- Two years of professional experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- At least two years of professional experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified
- Advanced knowledge of HTML and CSS as well of web standards, including digital accessibility standards
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Specifically, Photoshop and Illustrator)
- Familiarity with wireframing and prototyping tools such as Figma and Adobe XD
- Demonstrated experience using and interpreting Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager for reporting on metrics for content strategy
- Knowledge of/prior application of digital management and digital marketing and content management and SEO best practices
- Knowledge of UX/UI best practices Proven written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize, manage, and deliver multiple projects on a rolling delivery schedule.
- Ability to present concepts and designs to clients (faculty and administrators) or team members in a clear, confident manner.
- Ability to work well independently and as a member of a collaborative team; act professionally; provide and be receptive to feedback and constructive criticism; be a self-motivated learner; teach, mentor, and share knowledge with others; and build and maintain good customer satisfaction for the Office of Engineering Communications.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree in web/electronic media or related field
Experience:
Four years of professional experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Programming skills in languages such as PHP, MySQL, JavaScript (server-side)
Demonstrated ability to maintain, patch, and upgrade CMS environments (WordPress preferred)
Familiarity with working within brand guidelines and working within and helping to develop digital content strategy for multiple audiences.
Design background, ability to create graphics for use in digital environment
General knowledge of the principles of effective communication, marketing, and advertising.
Working knowledge of UX research methodologies including contextual inquiry, interviewing, focus groups, surveys, and card sorting.

The UX/Web Designer develops and maintains the information architecture for the college’s websites and other digital properties to ensure logical layout, organization, and presentation for a positive user experience. They design user flows, content wireframes, and original website designs that reflect an understanding of UX principles, accessibility standards, and the university’s web design system. The designer conducts user research and competitor analyses, applies data-driven insights to improve usability, and meets with stakeholders to understand goals and translate them into functional, visually appealing designs.
This position also monitors and analyzes web performance data for strategic and content planning, using tools such as Google Analytics and Tag Manager to measure engagement and identify opportunities for improvement. The designer makes recommendations for enhancing accessibility, SEO performance, and user navigation, while also supporting SEM efforts through effective tag management, tracking pixels, and campaign optimization.
In addition, the UX/Web Designer maintains and updates existing websites and electronic media, manages the college intranet, and trains internal clients on content management systems to ensure consistency and adherence to digital branding standards. They collaborate with digital content specialists on departmental web projects, coordinate with OIT and the Office of Communications and Marketing to resolve technical issues, and ensure the college’s digital portfolio remains secure and efficient. Administrative responsibilities include attending meetings, managing communication with clients, and engaging in ongoing professional development to stay current with evolving digital technologies and best practices.
