Job Description
The Department of Chemistry & Physics at The University of Tennessee at Martin invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Physical Chemistry or closely related field to teach beginning August 1, 2026.
UT Martin is a comprehensive university within the University of Tennessee System, serving over 6,900 undergraduate students in northwest Tennessee. The department employs 13 full-time faculty and is dedicated to undergraduate teaching and research; we offer an ACS-approved Chemistry B.S. degree and a variety of Chemistry B.S. concentrations (chemical sciences, chemical physics, health sciences, and forensic science) to students pursuing a major in Chemistry. The department is housed in a 120,000-square-foot Engineering and Science building that opened Spring 2023 and is equipped with a wide range of instrumentation including a 400 MHz NMR, GC-MS, LC-MS, FTIR, XRD, XRF, and ICP-OES.
Responsibilities
The candidate will teach lecture and laboratory courses in general chemistry and physical chemistry. The candidate will pursue research aligned with their discipline, with efforts toward undergraduate student engagement through faculty mentorship. Additional responsibilities include academic advising for chemistry majors and contribution to the department and university through service.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in chemistry, with specialization in physical chemistry or related field by the start date. The position requires a strong commitment to teaching, an excellent background in chemistry, and outstanding English communication skills.
