Job Summary
The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in coordinating and supporting the daily operations of the accounting team, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, and general ledger functions. This role serves as a key control and coordination point within the accounting function, ensuring financial data is accurate, well-supported, and produced in alignment with established timelines and standards.
The Assistant Controller supports payables, receivables, and cash management functions through process coordination and technical review and plays a key role in month-end close, financial reporting, audits, and process improvement initiatives. This position partners closely with the Controller to support organizational goals, enhance financial operations, and ensure compliance with accounting standards.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and technically strong accounting professional who can support the Controller in ensuring accurate, timely, and well-controlled financial operations across accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, general ledger, month-end close, reporting, audits, and tax-related processes. This person brings a solid understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, accruals, assets, liabilities, and internal controls, along with the ability to review transactions and supporting documentation with a high degree of accuracy.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Support the Controller in overseeing daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash activity, and general ledger processes.
- Assist with month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit preparation to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Review transactions, journal entries, and supporting documentation to maintain strong internal controls and compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Prepare and file lodging, business and sales tax returns in multiple states.
- Help coordinate accounting workflows, resolve issues, and support process improvements that enhance efficiency and consistency.
- Partner with cross-functional teams and provide guidance to accounting staff to support accurate financial operations and organizational goals.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressive accounting experience required.
- Experience providing technical guidance or coordinating accounting workflows preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with accruals, assets, liabilities, general ledger, and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide technical guidance and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Experience with accounting systems such as: Great Plains (Dynamics), Management Reporter
- Familiarity with payroll systems, HRIS platforms, POS systems, and budgeting tools preferred.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Regular use of hands and fingers for computer and office work.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
- Occasional standing, walking, and movement between locations.
- Ability to work in a professional office environment with extended computer use.
