Job Description

The purpose of this job is to assist in team leadership and manage categories of service offerings with the goal of increasing gross profit dollars and building strategic advantages for the company.

Essential Functions

  1. Develop annual and multi-year category plan; write and present annual budget plan to senior team
  2. Review and report out on categories monthly and yearly performance to include financials, key performance indicators and underlying trends.
  3. Maintain in-depth knowledge of all contracts and obligations to ensure that both Pilot Flying J (PFJ) and vendor adhere to the agreed-upon term and spirit of the contract or agreement
  4. Manage commercial aspects of category to include: pricing, marketing, offering and network placement
  5. Improve operational aspects of category to include: team processes, technology and expenses
  6. Develop relationships with customers and suppliers as needed to grow categories
  7. Visit stores to engage customers and team members in category feedback on products
  8. Attend industry events and conferences to learn latest technology, trends and make connections
  9. Lead vendor process including review of new products, business planning, cost negotiations and RFP execution
  10. Study industry and category trends to support planning and development process
  11. Supervise direct report; coach, train, and develop direct reports, to include appraising job performance and conducting performance reviews
  12. Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; ensure guests and team members are supported at the highest level
  13. Ensure compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  14. Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate required
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field of study required
  • Minimum three years category management preferred
  • Minimum two years of managing people preferred

Specialized Knowledge

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills

Travel

  • Travel required less than 25%, overnight may be required
