About the Role
The Nashville Predators are seeking a full-time Data Analyst to join our Hockey Operations Department. This role will support both the Analytics and Hockey Operations teams by leveraging data to enhance hockey systems and support decision-making. Reporting to the Assistant GM & Director of Hockey Operations and the Director of Hockey Analytics, you'll thrive in a collaborative environment focused on uncovering competitive advantages through data.
Position Overview
The ideal candidate is a driven data storyteller with a strong foundation in hockey analytics. You’ll analyze player, team, and league trends, build reports and visualizations, and translate complex data into compelling narratives that resonate with key stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities:
- Analyze hockey data to uncover trends, evaluate performance, and support strategic decisions.
- Create and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations.
- Communicate insights clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical audiences to diverse groups.
- Document processes and maintain data integrity across projects.
- Stay current with hockey analytics trends and contribute to ongoing research initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of one to two (1-2) years of related experience with a professional sports team, or sports data analytics company.
- Strong data storytelling skills - ability to explain data findings in a clear, engaging way.
- Proficiency in SQL and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
- Experience with Python or R.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Passion for hockey and a basic understanding of the game’s structure and strategy.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Self-starter, eager, and passionate to learn and contribute to the team.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends as dictated by organization scheduling.
- As a condition of employment, qualified applicant will be subject to a background check, including a criminal history check, driver history and character references.
- Possess a valid driver’s license, possess a suitable driving history and be insurable by Nashville Predator’s insurance carrier.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with hockey data (e.g., NHL, AHL, tracking data).
- Experience with machine learning or predictive modeling.
- Exposure to working with large datasets and player tracking systems.
- Front-end development experience.
Essential Physical Functions:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must have high finger dexterity.
- Ability to speak and communicate clearly with others.
- Must be able to occasionally lift and move boxes of office equipment, accounting files, etc. weighing up to 20 lbs.
