Job Summary/Basic Function

The Director of Advising oversees academic advising services for the Honors College, including daily operations and supervision of advising staff. Reporting to the Dean of Honors, the Director assigns students to advisors, monitors advising performance, and provides coaching as needed.

The Director maintains current knowledge of program requirements, policies, and academic procedures, and leads the advising components of key events such as New to Blue Orientation Days, True Blue Preview Days, Admitted Students Days, and other special on-campus or off-campus events for prospective students.

Using systems such as EAB Navigate 360, ARGOS, BANNER, and Pipeline, the Director tracks student progress and advising effectiveness, adjusting strategies to support student success. The role also includes developing and implementing advising policies and procedures that promote retention, academic achievement, and timely graduation.
The Director works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators to enhance the overall Honors student experience and engages with state, regional, and national honors organizations to support program development and best practices. The Director also provides student success data and assessment reporting to the Dean to support institutional effectiveness and accreditation requirements, including SACSCOC.

Required Education

Master’s degree in education, higher education administration, counseling, student affairs, or a related field.

Required Related Experience

Minimum five (5) years of experience in academic advising or student support areas (such as support services, student life, admissions, enrollment management, financial aid, and scholarships) with at least one (1) year in a supervisory role.
