Job Summary/Basic Function
The Assistant Director for Educational Services and School Outreach at the Tennessee Center for the Study and Treatment of Dyslexia (a.k.a., Center for Dyslexia) provides leadership in the development and coordination of educational services and outreach initiatives that support evidence-based literacy instruction and intervention for elementary and secondary students with reading difficulties, including dyslexia. The position collaborates with schools, families, and university partners to deliver training, consultation, and resources, and performs other related duties and special projects, as assigned.
Required Education
Master’s degree in education, psychology, or other literacy-related fields required; Ph.D. or Ed.D. preferred
Required Related Experience
Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience providing reading instruction to elementary and/or secondary students
Desirable Related Experience
• Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience designing and delivering professional development workshops for educators
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in assessment and educational planning for students in grades K–12 with dyslexia or other reading difficulties
• Experience serving as an educator or administrator in a K–12 school setting
• Experience administering and interpreting educational assessments (e.g., Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills [DIBELS], Test of Word Reading Efficiency [TOWRE], Wechsler Individual Achievement Test [WIAT])
• Experience supervising undergraduate and/or graduate students
• Prior experience designing and delivering professional development workshops for educators
Desirable License/Registration/Certification
• Active K–12 teaching license
• Certification in dyslexia or structured literacy instruction, such as Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP), Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), Certified Academic Language Therapist–Qualified Instructor (CALT-QI), Orton-Gillingham Practitioner, Wilson Practitioner, or Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI) certification
