Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#107180) at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026.

As a Carnegie R2 (Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity) institution, we seek a scholar with expertise in computational or applied mathematics who will contribute to our vibrant academic community through teaching, research, and membership excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a productive, externally funded research program.
  • Engage undergraduate and graduate students in research.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and interdisciplinary collaboration for undergraduate and graduate programs.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a B.S. in Mathematics, a B.S. in Actuarial Science, and an M.S. in Mathematics. The department also participates in several interdisciplinary degree programs, including the Ph.D. in Computational and Data Science. Required Education

A terminal degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, computational mathematics, or closely related field is required by the appointment date.

Other Desirables

Applicants with the following will receive special consideration:

  • Strong record of publication in areas such as
    • Computational mathematics.
    • Numerical analysis.
    • Mathematical modeling.
    • Mathematical biology, or optimization.
  • Experience supervising student research.
  • Ability to complement and enhance existing department teaching and research programs.
  • Post-doctoral research experience.
  • Demonstrated potential to secure external funding for research or curriculum development.
