Social Media Strategist
Megan Klein Consulting | Memphis, Tennessee
Part-time (20-25 hrs/week) with the opportunity to scale
Megan Klein Consulting (MKC) is looking for a creative, organized, and curious part-time Social Media Strategist who can help turn smart marketing strategies into content people actually want to watch, read, and engage with. We hope this position will grow into a full-time role at the beginning of 2027.
This is not simply a social media posting position.
We’re looking for someone who understands how to capture a client’s voice, identify the stories worth telling and translate key messages into strong social content. You’ll spend time behind a camera, inside an editing platform, building content calendars, collaborating with our team and meeting directly with clients.
What You’ll Do
You’ll work closely with the MKC team to plan, edit, and execute social media and content strategies for a variety of small and mid-sized businesses and organizations. Our client portfolio ranges from architects and plumbers to schools and therapists and everything in between.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Plan and manage client social media content calendars based on established marketing strategies, audiences, brand standards and key messages.
- Coordinate regular content capture sessions with clients.
- Shoot high-quality short-form video and photography using mobile and professional content-creation equipment.
- Edit short-form video for Instagram Reels, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and other appropriate platforms.
- Identify compelling moments, stories, quotes and ideas during client interviews and content sessions.
- Turn larger pieces of content into multiple useful social assets.
- Monitor social performance and use what we learn to improve future content.
- Prepare monthly social media marketing reports for client accounts to show the impact of your strategy.
- Stay current on changing social formats, platform capabilities and content trends without chasing trends that don’t make sense for the client.
- Participate in client meetings, internal brainstorming sessions, events and on-site content opportunities.
What We’re Looking For
We expect this person to be relatively early in their career, but not brand new to the work.
Our ideal candidate has:
- Approximately three years of professional experience in social media, content creation, digital marketing, videography, communications or a related field.
- Strong short-form video capture and editing skills.
- A portfolio demonstrating social-first video and content work.
- Working knowledge of Meta platforms and a solid understanding of Instagram and Facebook content strategy.
- Familiarity with TikTok and YouTube, including short-form video.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The confidence and professionalism to work directly with business owners, executives and client teams.
- Good instincts about what makes an interesting story.
- An understanding that good content starts with the audience and business objective, not simply the latest trend.
- Strong organizational and deadline-management skills.
- A willingness to learn, take feedback and continually improve.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a small, fast-moving team.
- Flexibility to work on location with clients throughout the Memphis area.
You’ll Probably Love This Job If…
You’re curious about people and businesses.
You notice good stories.
You can make someone who’s uncomfortable on camera feel comfortable.
You like figuring out how to say something better, show it more clearly or make it more interesting.
You’re organized enough to manage a calendar but flexible enough to recognize when a better idea walks through the door.
And you’re interested in learning not just how to make content, but why certain marketing works.
Compensation: Compensation of up to $25/hr., depending on experience, portfolio, and demonstrated video production capabilities.
Additional Information: This position requires reliable transportation and does not require set office hours. The Social Media Strategist is expected to be available to meet on-site with MKC clients as needed and for team meetings in-person in Memphis. The anticipated start date for this position is November 1.
