Title: SECURITY OFFICER

Reports to: Surdonicus Hilliard, Safety & Security Manager

FLSA: Part-time/Non-Exempt

Minimum Hourly Pay: $16

The Security Officer plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patrons, staff, volunteers, and visiting artists. This position is responsible for monitoring facilities, controlling access points, responding to incidents, and supporting emergency procedures during events and non-event hours.

Security Officers serve as highly visible representatives of the organization and are expected to interact with the public in a professional, courteous, and calm manner at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Facility and Access Security

  • Patrol interior and exterior areas of the facility to ensure the safety of people and property.
  • Monitor surveillance systems, alarm panels, and fire safety systems.
  • Control entry and exit points, checking credentials and authorizations as required.
  • Secure doors, gates, and restricted areas according to established procedures.
  • Ensure parking areas are used by authorized vehicles only.

Incident Response and Prevention

  • Observe and report irregularities, suspicious activity, or safety hazards.
  • Enforce organizational policies and procedures in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to disturbances, emergencies, or security concerns.
  • Assist with crowd management during events, including line control and wayfinding.
  • Document incidents accurately and complete required reports.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Assist with building evacuations and emergency procedures.
  • Operate fire alarm systems and coordinate with emergency responders as needed.
  • Provide basic first aid or CPR/AED assistance when required and certified.
  • Communicate clearly and calmly with patrons, staff, and authorities during emergencies.

Customer Service and Team Support

  • Provide directions, assistance, and information to guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Support front-of-house and operations teams during events as assigned.
  • Always maintain a professional appearance and serious demeanor.
  • Contribute to departmental and organizational goals.
  • Uphold the organization’s mission, vision, values, and commitment to equity and inclusion.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in security, safety, or related role preferred.
  • Valid security guard license or ability to obtain required licensure.
  • Knowledge of standard security procedures and emergency response protocols.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and sound judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Experience working in entertainment venues, public assembly spaces, or customer-facing environments.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with security or incident reporting systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and navigate stairs and crowded areas.

Work Environment and Schedule

  • Evening, weekend, and holiday availability required.
  • Work may occur during performances, special events, rehearsals, and non-event hours.
  • Fast-paced, public-facing environment with large crowds.
