The Facilities & Grounds Assistant supports the Facilities, Grounds & Maintenance Technician in maintaining a clean, safe, functional, and welcoming environment across PURE Academy’s campuses.

This position is responsible for daily custodial support, groundskeeping, landscaping, facility preparation, basic maintenance assistance, equipment care, and general campus operations. The ideal candidate is dependable, hands-on, safety-conscious, and takes pride in maintaining a high-quality environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Essential Responsibilities

Custodial & Campus Cleanliness

Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, common areas, restrooms, hallways, residential spaces, athletic areas, and other assigned facilities.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and clean surfaces and fixtures.
Remove trash and recycling from designated areas.
Restock custodial supplies and notify the Facilities Technician when supplies are needed.
Assist with deep cleaning and seasonal cleaning projects.
Assist with preparing facilities for school events, athletics, meetings, and special activities.
Maintain clean and organized storage and custodial areas.
Monitor assigned areas for damage, safety concerns, or maintenance needs and report them promptly.

Landscaping & Grounds

Assist with maintaining lawns, athletic areas, flower beds, trees, shrubs, walkways, parking areas, and other outdoor spaces.
Mow, edge, trim, weed, mulch, prune, and perform seasonal landscaping activities.
Operate lawn and grounds equipment safely, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, pressure washers, and other applicable equipment.
Remove leaves, litter, branches, and other debris from campus grounds.
Assist with maintaining athletic and recreational areas.
Help maintain a clean and attractive appearance across campus.
Report damaged sidewalks, standing water, fallen limbs, unsafe fencing, or other grounds hazards to the Facilities Technician.

Maintenance Support

Assist the Facilities Technician with routine building maintenance and preventative maintenance activities.
Assist with basic painting, touch-up work, furniture repairs, fixture replacement, and general facility upkeep.
Assist with replacing filters, light bulbs, hardware, and other routine maintenance items as directed.
Help move, assemble, and arrange furniture and equipment.
Assist with pressure washing and exterior building maintenance.
Help prepare work areas and gather tools and materials for maintenance projects.
Report plumbing, electrical, HVAC, structural, or other facility issues to the Facilities Technician.
Do not perform repairs requiring specialized licensing or training unless properly authorized and qualified.

Equipment & Supply Management

Properly operate, clean, and store custodial, landscaping, and maintenance equipment.
Assist with maintaining lawn equipment and tools in good working condition.
Keep tools and equipment organized and secured when not in use.
Assist with maintaining inventory of custodial, landscaping, and maintenance supplies.
Receive, organize, and distribute facilities-related supplies and materials.
Notify the Facilities Technician when equipment, tools, or supplies need repair or replacement.

Facilities Safety & Compliance

Maintain a clean and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Identify and immediately report safety hazards.
Follow school safety procedures and established protocols for equipment and chemical use.
Properly use, label, store, and handle cleaning chemicals and maintenance supplies.
Wear required personal protective equipment when performing assigned tasks.
Operate equipment according to manufacturer and school safety requirements.
Help ensure work areas are secured and safe for students and staff.

School & Student Environment

Maintain professional and positive interactions with PURE Academy students.
Model reliability, responsibility, pride, and respect for the school environment.
Support a campus environment that communicates high expectations and care for students.
Assist with appropriate student work-based learning or internship opportunities when assigned.

Preventative Maintenance Support

Assist the Facilities Technician with the campus preventative maintenance program, including:

HVAC filter replacement and routine checks
Lighting and fixture checks
Doors, locks, and hardware
Appliances
Grounds and landscaping equipment
Athletic and recreational facilities
Dormitory and residential facilities
Exterior grounds and drainage
Furniture and fixtures
Roof and gutter observations
General campus inspections

Event & Campus Support

Assist with setup and breakdown for school events, athletic events, meetings, and special activities.
Help prepare athletic fields, common spaces, and facilities for scheduled activities.
Assist with moving tables, chairs, furniture, equipment, and supplies.
Provide general facilities support during special events and high-use periods.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
At least 1 year of experience in custodial services, landscaping, maintenance, construction, property management, facilities, or a related field preferred.
Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, climbing, standing, walking, and working outdoors.
Ability to safely operate basic custodial, landscaping, and maintenance equipment.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to respond appropriately to changing priorities.
Dependable attendance and punctuality.

Preferred
Experience working in a school, residential, commercial, institutional, or similar environment.
Experience with landscaping or groundskeeping.
Basic knowledge of painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or general building maintenance.
Experience operating commercial lawn equipment.
Experience maintaining athletic fields or recreational facilities.
OSHA or other relevant safety training.

Physical Requirements
The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

The employee must be able to safely lift and move supplies, equipment, furniture, and other materials consistent with the requirements of the position.
