AngelStreet empowers young women to understand their value, discover their purpose, and become creatively equipped to serve the Memphis community as leaders. We mentor girls by providing musical training, mentoring, and leadership development in communities with limited artistic opportunities. Founded on Christian principles, AngelStreet integrates music, faith, and community while welcoming all young women to participate.
Position Overview
The Step Coach will lead AngelStreet’s step program, guiding students in stepping fundamentals, choreography, rhythm, and performance preparation. This role blends step instruction with mentorship—helping students grow as performers, leaders, and confident young women. Practice is held once a week on Tuesdays from 4:30–6:30 PM.
Responsibilities
Choreograph and teach step routines, incorporating body percussion, vocalization, rhythm, and syncopation.
Provide technical training and instruction in proper step fundamentals, including timing, sharpness, and formations.
Mentor students in leadership, teamwork, and personal development, modeling AngelStreet’s values of empowerment and excellence.
Oversee practice planning, performance preparation, and coordination of costumes/attire, music, and props.
Attend and supervise all scheduled performances, including:
– AngelStreet showcases and recitals
– School or community step exhibitions
– Potential community events as scheduled
Qualifications
Prior step team, dance team, or step coaching experience (required).
Demonstrated experience teaching or mentoring youth.
Strong step choreography and performance portfolio (video or live examples required).
Knowledge of step conditioning, flexibility, and injury prevention.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Strong organizational skills, including scheduling and costume oversight.
Commitment to empowering young women through leadership, mentorship, and character development.
Other
Position may require occasionally lifting objects of 10–25 pounds
Position will require occasional driving
Strong preference for those with a youth development or recreation background
Must be able to work some evenings and weekends for scheduled performances
