About the Role

Gap Inc. is looking for a strategic and people-centered leader to join our team as Director of Compensation, with a strong focus on supporting employees in our stores and distribution/customer contact centers (DC/CC). In this impactful role, you’ll shape compensation strategies that reflect our commitment to pay for performance, transparency, and meaningful recognition for the teams who deliver our brand experience every day.
As a key member of the Total Rewards leadership team, you’ll reimagine how we reward and retain talent across our operational footprint. Your work will drive scalable, data-informed solutions that honor the contributions of our store and DC/CC teams, while aligning with our broader goal: to become a high-performing house of American brands that shape culture.

What You'll Do

Compensation Leader – Stores Across Multiple Brands & DC Operations

  • Lead the design, implementation, and management of compensation programs tailored to store across multiple brands and distribution center (DC) employees, including hourly base pay structures, incentive plans, and recognition programs.
  • Develop compensation strategies that reflect the unique needs of front-line talent in both retail and DC environments, supporting workforce engagement, operational excellence, and brand-specific business goals.
  • Conduct market research and benchmarking using industry-specific data to ensure competitive pay positioning for store and DC roles across diverse geographies and labor markets.
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights to guide compensation decisions and support operational leaders in making informed talent investments.
  • Oversee the annual compensation planning cycle for store and DC employees, including merit increases, promotions, and incentive payouts, ensuring alignment with performance outcomes and financial targets.
  • Partner closely with HR Business Partners, Store Operations, and DC Operations teams to deliver compensation solutions that are practical, scalable, and responsive to the needs of hourly and field-based teams across brands.
  • Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, pay equity standards, and transparency regulations while maintaining internal consistency and external competitiveness.
  • Monitor labor market trends and proactively recommend enhancements to compensation programs to attract, retain, and motivate front-line talent in a dynamic, multi-brand retail environment.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to HR, Operations, and Finance leaders on compensation matters impacting store and DC employees, providing strategic guidance and operational support.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Labor Relations, and HR Operations to ensure compliance and integrity across all compensation programs.
  • Develop and deliver training and communication materials tailored to store and DC audiences, ensuring clarity, consistency, and adoption of compensation programs.
  • Manage compensation tools and systems to ensure they are intuitive and accessible for field and DC users, supporting efficient execution and decision-making at the local level.

Who You Are

  • Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities, with a proven ability to evaluate complex scenarios using diverse data sources—both internal and external—to develop clear, actionable solutions. Highly proficient in Excel for modeling and analysis.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence stakeholders, articulate and defend recommendations, and negotiate effectively. Skilled in creating impactful presentations using Word and PowerPoint.
  • Highly organized and adaptable, with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage multiple concurrent projects and workstreams in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
  • Strategic thinker with a business-oriented mindset, consistently connecting compensation expertise to broader organizational goals and identifying cross-functional implications across Operations, Finance, and HR.
  • Extensive experience in compensation and other analytical disciplines, including Finance and Inventory Management, with a strong foundation in data modeling, interpretation, and strategic decision-making.
