Position Summary
The Senior HR Generalist plays a key role in supporting Leaders and Team Members across Home Team (Clayton’s Shared Services Business Unit) by providing guidance in core HR areas like employment practices, compensation and benefits, compliance, and performance management. This role serves as a trusted partner and advocate – helping Team Members navigate challenges and supporting Leaders in building strong, engaged teams. By fostering a positive and inclusive culture, the Senior HR Generalist helps create an environment where everyone can grow and thrive within Clayton.
Job Functions
- Expertly apply practical knowledge of federal, state, and local labor & employment laws and regulations as well as Company policies and procedures
- Routinely partnering with and expertly advising leaders through:
- Leaves of Absence
- FMLA, ADA, Discretionary, Other
- Performance Management
- Promotions, PIPs, Performance Metrics, Reviews
- Investigations
- Job Changes
- Terminations
- Company Policy
- Leaves of Absence
- Possess and maintain knowledge of company Benefits programs to effectively answer questions and support new hire and annual enrollment efforts
- Partner with Home Team Leaders and the Compensation team on routine and ad-hoc compensation efforts including
- Individual job evaluations
- Team reorganizations / restructures
- Departmental compensation studies
- Bonus plan reviews
- EOY Merit activities
- Executing and supporting various Payroll / Timekeeping activities
- Ensuring organization assignments are accurate for each Team Member including tax company and cost center assignments
- Serve as the primary Timekeeper for Home Team, assisting leaders and Team Members with time corrections, approvals, and additional training as needed
- Interprets and advises on Company policy & procedure as needed
- Audits and monitors compliance with all human resource policies and procedures
- Assists in the development, revision and distribution of HR policies & procedures by owning the ongoing review and maintenance of the Home Office Team Member Handbook, partnering with Internal Communications, HR Leadership, and Legal as applicable
- Routinely audit all HR-related data, ensuring information is entered and stored accurately at all times
- Perform routine audits of transactions to ensure accurate completion and compliance
- Ensure proper procedures are following across all functional areas of HR, identifying and resolving areas of opportunity when necessary
- Ensure all HCM (Workday) processes are optimized and utilized effectively and efficiently, delivering training and creating educational resources as necessary
- Routinely initiating, approving, and processing core HR transactions within HCM (Workday) accurately and efficiently
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must have outstanding interpersonal relationship building and coaching skills, with a natural ability to approach interactions with curiosity, respect, and civility
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field; or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum 4-6 years’ prior related experience in Human Resources required
- Must have or be willing to obtain HR Certification such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP
- Must have working knowledge of Federal, State, and local employment laws including but not limited to ADA, ADEA, Title VII, FMLA, OSHA, etc.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office platforms such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Copilot, and OneDrive
- Must have prior experience using a cloud-based HCM, prior experience using Workday HCM strongly preferred
- Must be able to use sound logic and judgment to independently decision on HR matters of moderate complexity
- Must have exceptional communication and facilitation skills; written and verbal
- Must have exceptional attention to detail and ability to maintain the highest standards of quality and accuracy
- Must have a solid learning agility and be able to understand and absorb information quickly and accurately, and actively engage in continuous learning activities and ongoing professional development
