Accounting Assistant

The Chattanooga Zoo is seeking a PT Accounting Specialist to join the Zoo Crew! To be successful in this role you will need to have a passion for numbers, possess a high level of detail, and thrive on accurate data and spreadsheets.
The Accounting Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records and contributes to the overall financial health of the Zoo. This position involves various tasks related to general ledger maintenance, invoice processing and cash reconciliation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Reconciling daily cash receipts and recording cash transactions
- Prepare bank deposits
- Verification and reconciliation of credit card transactions and receipts
- Invoice processing and reconciliation
- Posting checks and vendor payments
- Maintain electronic and physical financial records
- Assist in account analysis and account coding
- Log transactions and create and utilize spreadsheets
- Assist Finance Director with audits, forecasts, and other financial planning
- Handle incoming mail, scan and photocopy documents
- Filing, mailing, and other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE•
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Two (2) years of relevant college coursework
- Minimum one (1) year relevant, hands-on experience
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, including Excel is required
- Experience / knowledge of Sage preferred
- Any combination of equivalent education and experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered

- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Exceptional attention to detail; high level of accuracy
- Excellent computer skills; Proficiency with Excel spreadsheets
- Analytical thinker with problem solving skills
- Proficient fact-checking abilities
- Trustworthy and discreet when working with confidential information
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid driver's license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light:
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.

This position requires sitting for long periods of time, but also may require some movement across Zoo grounds
Physical Environment:
This position is generally required to perform work within an office setting and occasionally exposed to external elements which include heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid and extreme weather conditions
