The Bessie Smith Cultural Center (BSCC) was founded in 1983 as the Chattanooga African American Museum to preserve, develop, exhibit, study, and advocate meaningful approaches to educate the community about the contributions of African Americans to the community and this nation. BSCC has become a recognized cultural institution providing a variety of workshops, visual and performing art performances, cultural-based programs, art programs and classes, festivals, and celebrations. Our mission: The mission of the Bessie Smith Cultural Center is to preserve and celebrate African American history through art, education, research, and entertainment.
