The O’More College of Architecture and Design at Belmont University in Nashville invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the History and Theory of Architecture at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with an anticipated start date of January or August 2027. The Department of Architecture seeks candidates who are committed to educating diverse leaders of character and who view architecture as a vehicle for the greater good. Grounded in Belmont’s Christ-centered mission, the program emphasizes collaborative, interdisciplinary learning; the integration of creativity, empathy, and technical rigor; and the development of meaningful, human-centered design approaches that engage community, context, stewardship, and professional practice. Responsibilities of the position include teaching 24 credit/workload hours per year in the architecture program, with an emphasis on the history and theory of architecture in one or more of the following areas: A holistic approach to the histories of architecture, including vernacular traditions and professionally-designed buildings in a global context Theories of architecture, especially as they intersect with ecological concerns History of architecture and the built environment in the Southeast Additional responsibilities include collegial participation in collaborative settings, academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and college and university service. The successful candidate is expected to pursue these aspects of faculty life within an ecumenical, student-focused environment that brings together the best of liberal arts and professional education in a Christ-centered community of learning and service. O’More College of Architecture and Design at Belmont University is a creative community that serves undergraduate students by providing professionally-oriented, liberal arts-based programs in Fashion Design, Fashion Business Design Leadership, a CIDA-accredited program in Interior Design, and an Architecture program that is accredited by NAAB effective Jan 2025. The facilities of the College include extensive studios that feature industry-standard equipment, flexible classroom/seminar space, a wood/model shop, and a Digital Fabrication Lab. The curricula of all programs benefit from the University’s general education core to develop well-rounded, critical thinkers who can solve problems in diverse groups while focusing on subjects central to their disciplines. In addition to benefiting from this rich liberal arts tradition and curricula focused on professional preparation within a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment dedicated to creative exploration within a Christian environment, students have access to internship opportunities and study abroad programs. The Department of Architecture offers a five-year B.Arch. that equips graduates with the first formal credential for professional licensure as an architect; the Department also offers a four-year B. F. A. in Architectural Studies. Focused on design, history, theory, structures, and environmental systems within a curriculum linked within the program and to external disciplines, departmental coursework and extracurricular activities stress the values of environmental and cultural stewardship, community service, and professional ethics. Students benefit from integrated coursework that joins their learning across architecture’s sub-fields and throughout the campus.
