The successful candidate will provide a high degree of technical expertise needed to produce a quality product at a competitive cost. Based on his/her experience working with equipment, practices, customers and people, this person has responsibility for problem solving, developing and controlling quality standards, fabricating practices, and instructing and training the appropriate personnel. He/she also may assist or coordinate in the design and development of new technical processes/equipment to provide a quality product. This position requires the ability to work weekends and off shifts
Tennessee Operations is located 3 hours North of Atlanta, GA; 2.5 hours East of Nashville, TN; and 4 hours West of Charlotte, NC. Arconic’s Tennessee Operations is one of the most modern aluminum fabricating facilities in the world. Our plants produce high-quality molten metal and aluminum sheet and are recognized as a world leader in the business. The facility has been located at the Foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains for 100 years and continues to thrive and grow.
Arconic is seeking a SSM (Sheet Surface Monitoring) Metallurgical Technician to join its Global Rolled Products (GRP) Operations business unit in Alcoa, TN.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a technical/operational support role within a manufacturing environment
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- 4+ years of related experience
- Quality control or technical support experience for hot rolling, cold rolling, or sheet heat treatment operations
- Experience with automotive customers
- SAP system experience or similar systems
- Excellent computer skills including use of Microsoft Office
- Proficient with spreadsheets, including Excel
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles
- Strong problem solving and communication skills to communicate with all levels of the organization required
- Must be able to demonstrate multi-tasking skills and be able to work independently and with cross functional teams

The incumbent's responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
- Administration of one or more Surface Quality Monitoring (SQM) systems as defined in the corporate SSM standard.
- Trouble shooting and repair of assigned area(s) SQM systems in conjunction with corporate resources, area met techs and system supplier(s).
- Coaching and training production personnel of assigned area(s) in surface quality requirements, SQM map interpretation, quality systems tools, nonconformance reaction plans, and stop criteria.
- Coaching and training maintenance in troubleshooting, start up and shut down procedures for assigned area(s) SQM systems.
- Monitoring final product unplanned surface scrap data of assigned area(s) for trending and process control\improvement purposes.
- Maintain and store assigned area(s) related quality procedures and documents needed to meet corporate and customers’ surface specification requirements.
- Monitoring assigned area(s) process to ensure standard practices and special instructions are being followed, including departmental quality systems implementation and auditing.
- Appropriate help chain participation in event of questionable material review, with good communications to the area involved and quality team.
- Ensuring the traceability of all products through the assigned area(s) Problem solving, developing solutions, and implementing corrective actions for related quality concerns.
- Use of problem-solving tools to identify and eliminate root causes of systemic failures.
- Assist in development / improvement of SWI’s, reaction plans and engineered stops to prevent surface related excursions and customer escapes.
- Working as a team with other disciplines to minimize costs, optimize product quality, and achieve plant recovery and customer return goals.
- Support Tennessee Operation safety goals.
