The MTE group is responsible for equipment reliability improvement, process improvement, equipment troubleshooting and upgrade support, automation and smart manufacturing, standard practice implementation, and major capital projects. This position is a key role within the global Manufacturing, Technology, and Engineering Team supporting the Rolled Products business group of Arconic Corp. The successful candidate will support several domestic and international manufacturing facilities and will be expected to work with a significant degree of independence in the execution of assignments.

Davenport Works is the country’s largest aluminum rolling mill, it was opened in 1948 and currently employs more than 2,000 people and ships product worldwide. It is in Riverdale in the Quad Cities (Davenport and Bettendorf in southeastern Iowa, and Rock Island and Moline in northwestern Illinois). The Quad Cities is 3 hours south-west of Chicago, 4 hours north of St. Louis, and less than 3 hours from Des Moines. The Quad Cities is home to St. Ambrose University among 8 educational institutes. Major outdoor summer music festivals include the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival, Mississippi Valley Blues Festival, and River Roots Live.

Arconic is currently in search of a Electrical Engineering Specialist to join our Rolled Products North America (RPNA) Manufacturing, Technology, and Engineering (MTE) Team, based out of Davenport, IA, Lancaster, PA or Alcoa, TN.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an accredited institution.
  • 10+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • Experience leading or supporting capital and expense projects in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and solve complex equipment and process-related electrical issues.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.
  • This position requires access to controlled technology and may require export control authorizations as applicable.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Electrical engineering experience within metals, rolling mill, or other heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with AC/DC drive systems, AC/DC motor applications, large motors – 5000+ hp, maintenance and theory, control systems, and automation.
  • Experience leading and implementing electrical projects including design, installation, and commissioning.
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of craftspeople, contractors, and maintenance personnel in the implementation of engineered solutions.
  • Experience managing external vendors and engineering service providers.
  • Demonstrated success working within team environments and cross-functional organizations.
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, safety standards, codes, and specifications.
  • Experience with medium voltage distribution systems and transformer maintenance and applications.
  • Experience estimating, justifying, and managing capital projects.
  • Strong electrical engineering, maintenance, and reliability background.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and technical personnel.

In this role, you will:

  • Support and collaborate with the Arconic Electrical Engineering Network, providing technical guidance and sharing best practices across facilities.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Corporate Standards related to Electrical Systems and Electrical Safety.
  • Provide technical expertise on control systems related to the metals industry, including rolling, coiling, leveling, strip conveyance, and other manufacturing processes.
  • Provide electrical engineering support to sustain production operations and equipment maintenance for rolling and finishing facilities within Arconic.
  • Lead or support root cause analysis and problem-solving efforts for significant electrical-related downtime events.
  • Specific expertise and responsibilities include:
    • Variable speed AC and DC drive systems above 1000 HP.
    • DC motor maintenance, overhaul, and rebuilding.
    • Medium and low voltage power systems in collaboration with power engineering resources.
    • Automation equipment, process computers, and programmable logic controllers.
    • Process networking (OT) and system interfacing.
  • While expertise in all areas is not required, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in several areas and possess a willingness to develop expertise in others.
  • Lead and support capital and improvement projects with significant operational and business impact.
  • Provide on-site technical support for critical process and equipment issues across Arconic facilities.
  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams to evaluate alternatives, build consensus, and implement practical technical solutions.
  • Participate in process improvement, maintenance, and efficiency initiatives utilizing statistical process control, reliability excellence methodologies, and data analysis tools.

  • While this role may support multiple locations, the preferred home location is Davenport, IA.
  • Travel will be required.
