Job Summary:
Arconic Tennessee Operations is seeking a talented Staff Mechanical Engineer. This role will provide engineering support to maintenance, safety, quality, and operations. This includes restoring product flow, providing technical solutions to recurring problems, analyze equipment and process data to identify opportunities for improvement, and develop solutions and system improvements to address those opportunities.
Tennessee Operations is located 3 hours North of Atlanta, GA; 2.5 hours East of Nashville, TN; and 4 hours West of Charlotte, NC. Arconic’s Tennessee Operations is one of the most modern aluminum fabricating facilities in the world. Our plants produce high-quality molten metal and aluminum sheet and are recognized as a world leader in the business. The facility has been located at the Foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains for 100 years and continues to thrive and grow.

You have: (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering from an accredited college/university
- A minimum of 3 years of work experience as a Mechanical Engineer or similar, relevant role.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Exceptional Candidates also have: (preferred)
- 5+ years of work experience as a Mechanical Engineer or similar, relevant role.
- Experience designing, fabricating and installing mechanical equipment
- Experience in justifying, managing and installation of projects
- Experience in SolidWorks or similar CAD software greater than 1 year
- Proficient problem solving and creative thinking skills
- Strong maintenance background
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability and experience to work with cross-functional teams
- Understanding of manufacturing techniques such as lean manufacturing, JIT, SPC, TQM, etc.
- Working knowledge of lubrication, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
In this role, you will:
- Provide engineering support to maintenance and operations across the department including restoring flow during breakdowns and developing preventative maintenance systems (including during the off shift)
- Troubleshoot equipment and process problems to root cause, providing engineered solutions to these problems
- Manage large equipment rebuilds – development, justification, management and implementation of these projects
- Develop into the technical equipment expertise for the department and provide technical leadership
- Support the department’s Quality, Safety, and Environmental goals
Also note:
- This position is eligible for a relocation benefit. Travel in this role can be up to 10%. This position reports to the Engineering Superintendent.
- This role does have after-hours support responsibilities which may include calls/texts after hours, on weekends, and during holidays. In some cases, the engineer may be required to come onsite to help support.
