Purpose:

The Director of Programming leads the booking & marketing of all of the Grupo Baby’s Properties, is generally available to support said staff, and actively books ticketed & public-facing events for the venues. The Director of Programming negotiates terms with promoters, artists, and agents. The Director of Programming shows flexible, adaptive thinking that never gives away too much in negotiations. All shows should have reasonable likelihood of profitability. They work alongside the Marketing & Box Office Manager, Venue Captains, ownership, and have rapport among venue staff generally. They follow the direction of ownership and develop said direction alongside ownership. Must know and appreciate the difference between standards and rules. The Director of Programming finds a way to make it happen, and does not take no for an answer (at least at first).

GENERAL:

  • Leads a culture of quick, thoughtful, and thorough communication with venue production staff and artist teams

  • Maintains and updates SOP calendar for greatest value to company

  • Maintains and evaluates KPIs, adjusting strategy to meet KPIs

  • Ensures team periodically reviews and puts SOP calendar into use and meets KPIs

  • Books high profile shows and handles our VIP relations for underplays and major booking agents

  • Liaises between Junior Talent Buyer, freelance bookers, Marketing Coordinator, ownership, and bookkeeper

  • Sends weekly forecast emails on Thursday for the following week (starting Monday)

  • Includes projected ticket sales, projected bar sales, and one-liner notes on the show/expectations

  • Acts as constant reminder of the importance of HOLISTIC BOOKING, complimentary shows pushed to same night, reservations pushed to changeover hours to keep crowds buzzing, etc.

  • Leads weekly meeting with Venue Captains & Ownership addressing coming 30-90 day stretch

  • Leads venue scoping and negotiations for potential new rooms, expansions or opportunities

  • Mentors and empowers the Junior Talent Buyer by introducing key industry contacts, gradually increasing autonomy, and providing growth opportunities that support the company’s long-term success

SHOW BOOKING, STRATEGY, ADMINISTRATION:

  • Books ten shows per week at Night Club 101 and ten shows per week at Baby’s All Right

  • Leads Baby’s Presents creative and commercial strategy

  • Handles and keeps organized all incoming requests for holds, deal terms, & agent/agency relationships

  • Leverages historical booking data to strategically schedule artists

  • Establishes company-wide SOPs and enforces adherence to SOPs by any programming/marketing/venue staff

  • Reaches out to target bookings and strategically fills calendars with an eye for seasonal shifts in attendance, bar sales, and artist release timelines

  • Crafts persuasive negotiations positioning Baby’s and 101 as the premier rooms of their size in NYC, and ensures artists prioritize them over corporate promoters;updates approach as needed to reflect shifts in the industry landscape

  • Keeps attention on potential radius clause violations

  • Is primary contact for all booking and event inquiries but delegates clearly and effectively

  • Consults Ownership daily on booking strategy

  • Communicates sales forecasts and production descriptions to Ownership & Venue Captains

  • Accurately and legibly uses Prism or similar software for holds management

  • Updates confirmed listings in Prism or similar software when deals change after confirmation

  • Considers F&B sales when evaluating show performance, checks POS sales reports often

  • Uses inarguably clear language in all communications with artists, their teams, and other third parties using our venues

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Attends at least 1 show per week at each venue and 1 show per week at unaffiliated venue

  • Coordinates consistent meetings with agents & promoters, ensuring ample face time

  • Is reachable and responsive to Ownership and Venue Captains

Requirements:

  • One+ years music industry experience

  • Highly organized & detail oriented with ability to reliably meet deadlines

  • Proficient in Google suite, MS Office, Adobe software, & Social Media Content Production

  • General knowledge of live & recorded music industry vernacular and willingness to ask questions when communication is unclear for any reason
